South Korean game company Paradise said casino sales grew to about 296.31 billion won ($264.67 million) in the first half of this year, up 23.7 percent from a year earlier. Paradise told the Korea Exchange on Thursday that table game sales in the first half of the year rose 23.7 percent year-on-year to 275.41 billion won, and slot machine sales rose 23.7 percent to just over 20.9 billion won.
The Seoul-listed company operates four casinos in Korea: Walkerhill, Jeju Grand, Paradise City in Incheon, and the Busan Casino. All casinos are for foreigners only and Koreans are not allowed to enter.
Sales at foreign-only casinos fell about 5.4% in 2017 compared with 2016. Annual sales data has fluctuated between growth and decline since 2015.
Paradise Inc is seeing more positive earnings last month, with casino sales up 11.1% month-on-month and 65.9% year-on-year to just over 57.59 billion won.
Table game sales reached nearly W54.64 billion in June, up 15.2% from May and 71.8% from a year earlier. Slot machine sales topped W2.95 billion last month, down 33.3% from the previous month but up 0.2% from a year earlier, Paradise told the stock exchange.
In an annual review of the foreign-only casino industry released late in June, the National Gambling Control Board, a national regulator, said 16 foreign-only casinos saw nearly 2.22 million visitors last year, down 6.22 percent from the 2016 data.
