Named after the city of Warangal, the history of Warangal Fort takes us back to the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty, which flourished between 1175-1324 CE. This magnificent fort was built by King Ganapatideva of the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century, and after his death in 1262, his daughter Rudrama Devi eventually took over the construction and the entire kingdom. Warangal Fort was attacked several times.

In 1309, Alauddin Khilji launched an attack on the fort during the rule of Prataparudra II. About 1000,000 soldiers attacked the fort, and the battle lasted for several months. King Prataparudra II and his army were able to defend the fort in this fierce battle. But the fort could not resist the onslaught of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, and was later attacked by the Nizam of Hyderabad as well. That is why this fort had to face destruction several times. What we see today are not just ruins but the magnificence of medieval architecture reflecting the bravery of the Kakatiya rulers.
