10,000 Years of Luxury

When Rendezvous in Paris goes deep into an incredible moment in the history of a city 10,000 years of Luxury explores a trend that has repeated itself throughout the course of human history. With more than 350 items which explore what different cultures have valued the most over 10 millennia. The exhibit will take the visitors to a journey through the evolution of taste, that spans from ancient Egypt up to 1800, the time of the French court in Versailles and the catwalks of today.
Drawings taken from collections in French museums, including those of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and Musee du Louvre, 10,000 Years of Luxury features ancient votive, a new dress from the Lebanese designer Elie Saab and masterworks from designers like Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga.

Luxury is the source of inspiration and the main inspiration for USO the Perfumed Cloud, one of two modern installations to be a part of the Louvre Abu Dhabi's premises this fall.
The first piece of its kind installed on the Middle East, USO (unidentified fragranced object) blends French luxurious know-how, an ethereal design and modern technology in climate.

USO - The Perfumed Cloud and Fur die Luft

Housed in a specially-commissioned chamber that will sit on an island under the museum's vast dome, this olfactory installation takes the form of a cloud that envelops visitors in a bespoke fragrance, developed by Maison Cartier's in-house perfumier Mathilde Laurent. The room, which is a transparent cube, was developed by the German company Transsolar KlimaEngineering, a climate engineering firm. If USO the Perfumed Cloud deals primarily with our sense of smell as well as scent, Susanna Fritscher's Fur die Luft (For the Air) is an installation that explores the sense of sight and the Louvre Abu Dhabi's delicate playing of light. A maze comprised from thousands of diaphanous silicon threads, which stretch across the entire floor of one of the gallery spaces, Fur die Luft appears like a mistthat catches the light rain that falls into the galleries, changing visitors' perception of the gallery and the area that their bodies inhabit through the process.

In the autumn of this year, Louvre Abu Dhabi is also pleased to present nearly 600 new items in our exhibitions to complete our regular artwork rotation. This includes the enigmatic Peacock of Abd al-Malik the Christian and a profoundly multifaceted object whose purpose and purpose has long been in doubt.
