The repair and extension of the Zenica Municipal Court building began in September of last year as part of the project of rebuilding and modernisation of judicial facilities funded by pre-accession funding, with completion scheduled for the end of this year.
The construction and supervision is fully financed by the European Union with 2 million euros, while the Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton in cooperation with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH provided the project documentation, and the Government of ZDK will also finance the purchase of furniture and computer equipment.
In this regard, Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and Special Representative of the European Union is with the President of the Municipal Court of Zenica, Dženana Brković, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Administration of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC). , visited the construction site.
They discussed the dynamics of the works, as well as the additional equipment activities that need to be undertaken in order for the newly built annex to be in operation immediately after the completion of the construction works.
Ambassador Sattler reminded that in the past period the EU spent a lot of money on the construction of infrastructure, considering that it is of crucial importance that the employees of these institutions have appropriate professional conditions, so that they can do their work well, and added: "This is something that is absolutely crucial if you want to get ahead.
This is an investment of 2 million euros, and our total investment in court buildings and prisons in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last 15 years was over 50 million euros. After the construction of the so-called hardware, the other part of our work, which is of course equally important, is the work on the software part, by which I mean moving forward in reforms when it comes to the judiciary, the rule of law, changes in the law, integrity. we will provide additional space, better working conditions and provide citizens with better service, in accordance with the strategic goals that the Municipal Court in Zenica has foreseen in its work", said the president of the Municipal Court in Zenica, Dženana Brković.
In addition to the reconstruction of the Municipal Court in Zenica, the reconstruction of two judicial buildings in Mrkonjić Grad and Prnjavor and the construction of new judicial buildings in Žepč and Bijeljina are currently underway. The European Union allocated 2.7 million euros for these projects in the period 2021-2022.
