Pakistan has banned Elon Musk's X platform, citing national security concerns.
Pakistani users have had trouble accessing X, formerly known as Twitter, after former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party called for protests over alleged vote rigging in the February 8 elections. Pakistan’s interior ministry has now officially confirmed that it blocked access to the platform.
In a court submission made public on Wednesday, the interior ministry explained that the ban was imposed because the platform failed to comply with government directives and did not address misuse. This decision, according to the ministry, was necessary to protect national security and maintain public order.
"The decision to impose a ban on Twitter/X in Pakistan was made in the interest of upholding national security, maintaining public order, and preserving the integrity of our nation," the ministry stated in its report to the Islamabad High Court.
